Knitting and other things

So knitting is back with a vengeance. I'm working on E's light green blanket...there's a whole pound of yarn and when D saw it, he thought it looked like an egg. It does look a bit like an Easter egg, one of the pastel painted ones.

After that, I'm planning to make him a number of hats, maybe starting with this one. I'm not so fond of the double-pointed needles, so I need to remember to buy 12" circular needles. I'd like to use this yarn, in the shade "Seafarer."

I'm on a really good streak with books lately...I've improved my heuristic for picking them out...basically, I go with authors I've read before, recommendations from people I trust, or I read the first 5 pages in the bookstore. The only problem is, when everything I'm reading is so good, I tend to whip through the books really quickly. So if you've read anything you loved lately, let me know!

I absolutely loved "The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen," which actually made me cry at the end.

At the moment I'm engrossed in a "Pride and Prejudice" variation sequel called "Without Reserve" that delves into what might have happened if Darcy had faced a rival to Elizabeth's affections.

A lot of Jane Austen, I know, but I can't help it!

I've also declared a moratorium on library books for the present, as we finally got our bookshelves organized and I realized I had over 60 books in my personal collection that I hadn't read. I'm working my way through them at the moment...

Oh, what are circular knitting needles, and what is their purpose?

I liked the Lost Memoirs too! She is going to come out with another one, the lost memoirs of Charlotte Bronte. Should be good. I've never heard of the other one, but I like the idea of a rival.

Circular knitting needles are pretty cool. They let you knit a hat without seams. Basically you're knitting in a big circle, around and around.

More on them here...including a pic.

Ahhhh! Very interesting, those circular knitting needles.

Here's the link for the P&P variation...the author has actually written a few of them. I got "Impulse and Initiative" as well for Christmas:

Our book club just recently read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and everyone LOVED it! Replay by Ken Grimwood was another book that the we all really enjoyed. And another recommendation would be Water for Elephants.

Thanks! Was The Book Thief depressing?

Hmmmmm...The Book Thief was a definitely sad...but SO GOOD. I actually listened to this book on MP3 and I think it is actually a better book to listen to than to read because the narrator was EXCELLENT...the narrator was "Death".

Ok, I will check it out! I just put it on hold at the library. It seems to be universally loved...5-star average customer review at Amazon (out of 286 reviews).
