A day at the dentist

Today I went to the dentist, and learned that my hygienist is pregnant. I'll miss her. I've known her for a while and I go there every 6 months. I guess I'm kind of averse to change. It turned out she's due in a month, and you can barely tell by looking at her. The only thing that looks different is her stomach; face and arms are unchanged. She only gained 25 pounds! The label sticking out of her scrubs said Small. I was amazed. The dentist came in for a little check at the end of the cleaning. I told him I was going to my college reunion on Memorial Day weekend, and he asked which one. "Tenth," I said, cringing. He started laughing and said he got a notice for his dental school reunion...25th. That made me feel a bit better. He looks younger than he is. In other news, I noticed a lot of people took the DNA personality quiz on their blogs. I never got around to it, and then I took it today. I thought it was quite interesting and pretty accurate. So, if you lik...

Today's FO

Image
So today's FO ("finished object" in knitters' jargon) is a baby hat. One of my cousins is about to give birth...well, his wife is. So my mom asked me to rustle up a hat. I think she's surprised that I finished it already. But you get this adrenaline rush, especially with a small project, and you plow right through to the ending. Massive craniums run in our family so I went up a needle size and used worsted weight instead of baby weight yarn. Hopefully it will work. How big can a baby's head be? I am seized by yarn lust. I put myself on a yarn diet, but I don't know how long it will last. Images of fluffy green alpaca yarn are swirling through my head. Oh, and you know I've been angsting about whether to go to my college reunion for a while. I decided to go. I was trying to figure out why it was such a big deal, especially since I went to my five-year reunion without a second thought. I guess after the passage of ten years, college really does seem like...

Dinner with friends

So we went to dinner with A and R tonight, our friends in the area. Conversation ranged over a wide variety of topics, including whether A and I should attend our upcoming college reunion. Am not sure why I am angsting about this so much. I went to my fifth-year reunion without a second thought, and had a good time. A isn't sure she wants to go, either. I made an "I'll go if you go" offer and she laughed and said, "I'm not ready to commit." She said she got post-traumatic stress disorder from her high school reunion. I steer clear of those :) And I did like my college, so again, I'm not sure why I'm putting so much analysis into it. Moving on... We ate at the Pelican, a fun, uber-trendy hotel with a sharp green awning and a pink padded door to the ladies' room. I got orrechiette with eggplant, cheese and tomato sauce, which was nothing less than splendid; and D and I split a key lime pie, my favorite Floridian dessert. R cracked us up with an...
