New tank top and dessert

Image
Here is my newest knitted tank top: At first, I was displeased with it. I used 3 skeins left over from my sweater, but one of them had patches of discoloration, which became little grey stitches. Then I realized I could do "duplicate stitches" -- i.e., use a darning needle to put yarn over the offending stitches. You might ask: "Why didn't you return the yarn, Bearette?" Answer: The yarn is non-returnable after you have them spin it into a ball for you. Plus, I had already done a bunch of knitting by the time the spots appeared. The tank top also called for crochet. The straps are chain stitch and the edges are single crochet. Also, I had a really good dessert tonight. It was a little bowl of puff pastry, half-filled with maple almond custard (but it was vegan, so no eggs) and splashed with berries. Yum.

They *really* need to bring me in as an ending consultant

So I just finished Dream When You're Feeling Blue by Elizabeth Berg. She is one of my favorite authors and I was looking forward to reading her newest book. Okay, I was apprehensive because it got some bad reviews on Amazon. But I figured she wouldn't let me down. For most of the book, I was right. It was beautifully written and full of interesting historical detail (really) from the 1940s, with sympathetic characters, suspense, humor and all that good stuff. Then she spoiled it with a HORRIBLE ENDING. A lot of customer reviewers at Amazon felt the same way. Really, it's not that hard!! Most books and movies have a natural ending that most of the audience wants. I could supply it for these people. I would do it for free. Note: EB is still awesome and I will read her next book. In other news: 1) Inspired by Liz , I ordered a neti pot and some saline solution from Amazon. I don't know when it will get here, but I am excited! I even recommended it to a woman on the elevato...

Crocheting

So I've mentioned that I'm obsessive, right? Given my newfound fascination with knitting, it was only a matter of time before I tried my hand at crocheting. Thanks to a helpful video on the Internet, I was able to figure it out. Yay! Here's a picture of my first few chain stitches: Also, we went to K's birthday party tonight. K is the proud owner of a charming pug named Sampson. She described him as the "king of the apartment." He also likes to chew on her knitting wool. I might be able to put up some pictures of him eventually. Last time I tried, my camera was on the fritz. Here's the scarf I gave K for her birthday (light blue), pictured next to the pink one I made for myself. They're both seed stitch, but the light blue is a cashmere blend, while the pink is merino.
