Here are the cupcakes and brownies:
I started a new mauve scarf a couple of days ago, and also bought some merino wool at the knitting cafe for a seed-stitch scarf. (That's a new stitch we learned today - you cast on an odd number of stitches, and then you knit 1, purl 1 for each row.) Although I usually knit with acrylic because wool makes me itch, the merino is so smooth and beautiful. It is also a dream to work with. So hopefully it won't irritate my skin :)

We saw Sherrybaby last night. If you like Maggie Gyllenhaal, I would recommend it. There is something very likeable about her, even when she's playing a hostile crackhead.

I love that color of the new scarf. I've been afraid of using wool. Not only for the itchy factor, but also for the washability.
R - i think it's an apple cheddar quiche :) i was afraid too, but now i'm a believer. d doesn't want anything made for him in wool, though - so when i move on to hats, i'll make him one in acrylic or chenille.

I'm so jealous of your speedy knitting. I'm still working on a scarf that I started back in November. And I still haven't finished an afghan that I started a year ago! (And that was supposed to be a wedding gift for my sister, who was married six months ago. Oops.)

I found as I played around more with different fibres I became a yarn snob,lol I'm all about the natural fibres now.Very expensive habit to have,lol Wool makes me itchy too:(
But I dream of owning Alpacas so I can have my own supply!It's just SO nice to knit with compared to the other stuff.

Was the employee uncomfortable with you taking pictures of the food? Or he was afraid he'd be in the pictures, too?
Liz - i'm not sure what his deal was. maybe he thought it was doing some kind of journalistic expose of the cafe? i was careful not to put him in the pictures. but i could see how tense he was, and he asked, "Um, can i help you?" in a pointed way after i started snapping. i explained that i was just taking some pix, and i would stop if it was making him uncomfortable, and he didn't say anything. but his tension was so obvious that i stopped.
some places in NY don't want you to take pictures...there's a frozen yogurt store that says "photography prohibited." this place has no such warning, but i guess they don't like being photographed.
oh, and i had to re-install all this software on my computer b/c i, um, dropped it. so i'll probably have to download instant messenger again...
Ms. L - it is so nice to knit with. i think i will still use acrylic sometimes, though - cheaper! they practically know my name at my local yarn store ;)
I've heard of some places in DC that are camera shy, too.
I took pictures of our food in almost every restaurant we ate at in Italy, even the fancy ones. No one said a word.
