Pars and Madonna

Today I met a charming cat called Pars. We called her that because she emerged from the sidewalk dining area of a restaurant called Pars. Anyway, Pars wound herself all around me, then slid under my bottom and emerged on the other side! What a limber kitty.

I read an MSN article about Madonna's new tour which basically gave away all the details of her first concert on the tour. Hopefully I'll forget all the details by the time I see her in July. Anyway, I know that she'll sing 9/12 of the songs on her new album, but will also sing songs from her other 9 CDs; there will be at least two political references; and at one point, she will emerge from a diamond-studded disco ball. Apparently the diamonds cost $3 million and the article speculated, "Perhaps that's why tickets to her concert cost as much as $350." We didn't pay that much, but we did get good seats: one level up from the floor, facing the stage. I can't wait...

P.S. Let me know if you've read anything you really liked lately. I have some blank spots on my library hold list.

P.S. 2: I also met a pug who seemed like a puppy, though he was four years old. He kissed me all over the face :)

I just finished Elizabeth Berg's We Are All Welcome Here and one by Jay McInerny called The Good Life. The latter takes place in NYC, post-9/11.

Now reading: Sweet and Low, (about the family that invented Sweet & Low) and Jacqelyn Mitchard's Cage of Stars.
Also, McCafferty's Sloppy Firsts. More of a YA book, but entertaining nonetheless!

Cool! Thank you. I actually got Elizabeth's book from the library today. I couldn't get into the Jay McInerny, but maybe I should try him again? Read McCafferty; she's one of my faves :) I'll check out Jacquelyn...

I've heard she hangs on a cross when she sings "Like A Prayer" or whatever it is called.

Oh yeah, the article said that too...a mirror-covered cross. My goodness.
$350 for tickets? You got to be kidding. You could probably go to the Super Bowl for less than that. I don't even think the Rolling Stones were that much. Does Madonna have the draw of the Stones? I have no idea, but assume the Stones make more in concert ticket sales. Correct me if I'm wrong.

CU - I guess that's why Pars was dancing ;)

ZS - My knowledge of the Stones is practically nil, at least in terms of ticket sales...but both Madge and the Stones sell out. We didn't pay $350, thank god. Then again someone offered my husband $200 for da vinci code tickets, and that's just a movie! so i'm sure ppl are willing to pay $350 for madonna.

I just read In Cold Blood by Truman Capote and really enjoyed it. I also read Little Children by Tom Perrotta - also quite good.

Back in January I finished Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts. It's currently being made into a film and Johnny Depp has already been cast in the lead role. The book was fantastic, although at over 900 pages I don't see how the film will be able to do justice to the book unless it's about 9 hours long or made into a trilogy of 3 3 hour films.

PS: Regarding Jay McInerney, the best book he ever wrote was Bright Lights, Big City way back in 1984. While his other books are enjoyable and are "good" reads, that's all they are. None of them compare to Bright Lights, Big City. I've not yet read The Good Life but after being repeatedly disappointed by his other books inability to match the quality of BLBC I'm not really in any rush to read it either.

Perplexio - 900 pages - oof!

Elsa - I read those, good taste ;)

VK - I remember you mentioned that one on your blog - I'll have to check it out.

Thanks guys, I will probably do this periodically.

Elsa- I love all Tom Perrotta's books. He's so funny.

I went to the library today and my copy of the new Anne Tyler was in! (Digging to America). I'm so glad I have a 3-day weekend coming up...

Also, did you ever check out May Contain Nuts? (John O'Farrell) I've been meaning to read some of his others...

I haven't read that one...maybe I'll put it on hold. I remember you talking about it. It's about parenting, right?

Yes- a farcical look at parenting. :)

Liz - Little Children was my first Tom Perrotta book and I really enjoyed. He has a wonderful writing style. I just picked up Wishbones and am looking forward to reading it.

BTW, let me know how you like Digging in America. I was thinking of picking that book for our book club.

Bearette - Obviously, you have good taste, too! ;)
