Thursday thirteen

1. Sometimes I wake up really early.
2. It's nice but I can't count on it.
3. I have 85 things to do today.
4. When I'm traveling, I enjoy it once I reach my destination, but the days beforehand tend to be busy.
5. I'm going to Boston with D this weekend to visit the fam and get together with a high school friend.
6. Sophomore year of college, I liked the idea of driving through Nebraska and looking at geometric cornfields.
7. I have no idea if they actually exist.
8. I pat multiple dogs per day.
9. Yesterday I patted Vince and Logan (shih tzu terrier mixes) and a basset hound.
10. I do get attached to things.
11. My current obsession is almond milk and donut peaches.
12. I tried fresh dates last night. They're not that different from dried.
13. I have three prom dresses from high school: one green, one blue, one purple.

I have three prom dresses from high school too -- one white, one black and one pink. And I didn't even like the prom...

Have a good trip.

My Mom saves my high school dresses. But I'm 37 so they're pretty scary.

She won't let me donate them to charity. If you want my Mom to hold onto something you don't want to keep, you tell her to donate it to charity.

carolyn - thanks! i think my mom may have ditched 2 or more of the prom dresses - i'm afraid to look ;)

i actually liked the prom, in a molly ringwald-esque way...

I only kept one of my high school dance dresses. It's black and fairly timeless. I did wear it again to a dinner a few years ago, but that was the only time.

Why are you saving your prom dresses? Sentimental reasons or do you plan on wearing them?

e - i'm actually not sure if they're still in the closet. i saw the green one last time i went home, then it seemed to be mysteriously gone? so they might all be gone with the wind...i did finish the list ;) not quite 85 items, but close.

OMG! Yes, I completely glossed over the fact that you had 85 things to do today because I was busy fantasizing about that forrest green velvet dress I wore when I was a sophomore.

I'd like to see a list of the 85 things, please. It could be called Friday 85 Things.

Ditto on #3.

Don't ever drive through Nebraska if you can help it. The only interesting thing is that you'll get the same radio stations from one end of the state to the other.

Rose and Skye were very special :) Rose was a black lab and Skye was a Cairn terrier. Which is a great name because Cairn terriers originated in the Isle of Skye :)

Vegetable personalities

At the risk that you'll all think I'm nuts...but heck. I was getting cauliflower ready for dinner and it occurred to me that vegetables have different personalities. In my mind, anyway. Zucchini: the most agreeable of vegetables. It blends in with everyone, but it's never obsequious or false to itself. Sweet potatoes: the grandmother of vegetables. Very cozy and welcoming. happy birthday e!

[Posted by Bearette's husband until she has Internet access] e was born today! 8 pounds even, a cute and healthy baby boy. He likes to stick out his tongue just a little, and move his mouth around. The hospital gave him a little white hat with a purple pom pom. Bearette is tired but happy. Pictures soon.

Eventful

A lot has happened today already. I went to meet D for lunch and along the way I spotted a Boston terrier -- one blue eye, one brown. I stooped to pat it and then I heard an ear-bruising screech!! Everyone's head whipped around. Even the dog jumped. A taxi had squealed to a halt and there was a delivery boy on its hood. Somebody yelled, "Call an ambulance!" The boy seemed fine, even hopping on his bike to finish his deliveries -- but everyone persuaded him to stay. I took out my cell phone but another woman was already giving details to 911. After the woman finished the call, I was satisfied that help was on its way, so I continued. There were a bunch of rubberneckers/supporters gathered around the boy, so he wasn't alone. The dog stayed too. I was shaken by this, of course, but then something amusing happened.
