It's getting better all the time

Last night E slept from 8:15 to 4:30, drank an ounce or two of soy milk mixed with breast milk, and fell asleep again till 7:15. The night nanny is still coming each night. She says he'll phase out the 4:30 feeding soon enough.

Meanwhile, I am weaning. I haven't nursed him since 7 pm on July 31st. The problem is, the supply doesn't stop when he does. I gave in and pumped a little last night. I'm wondering how much or how little to pump.

Your little boy is growing up. He sounds like a very reasonable baby.

Maybe just enough to ease the pressure? I don't remember having any major issues with weaning, but I think that sometimes fazing out a couple of feedings a day instead of cold turkey can be easier on mom. It seems like babies always take it much easier since their still getting nourished (and don't have hard rocks inside their shirt!).

I sure wish I'd had a night nanny back in the day. It sounds like it's going wonderfully. Sweet dreams!

Yes, she's very good. D did wake me up by going to the bathroom - I guess I'm a very light sleeper. With the weaning, I was down to two feedings (morning and night) for a while, then went to zero on Aug 1. It seems to be going ok - I just distract him or give him the bottle when he tries to nurse. I'm a little sad about it, though. I guess that's natural.

I agree. I still get sentimental when thinking of those special times with my two kiddos. I wonder if that'll ever go away (I hope not).

just pump enough to ease the discomfort but no more. Pumping till you drain the breasts will tell your body it need s to make more milk and you don't want that. You can also bind your breasts if they're uncomfortable - a nice supportive sports bra will often do that trick. and if all else fails put cabbage leaves in your bra.
