So I'm enjoying Miami more than I have in recent years. Maybe the slower pace of life here is just better suited to my slower pregnancy pace. Maybe the food, a little simpler than New York's, is better suited to my pregnant palate (which favors pasta with non-rich sauces, grilled cheese sandwiches, etc.). But I think the warm weather makes people more patient and kinder. It's even pretty when it's stormy here...the palm trees toss and the grey sky is brooding and atmospheric. Do we really need the cold of the northeast?

Of course, most of our friends are in New York. But for the first time, I can see the appeal of moving to Florida. Sure, the summers would be hot. But the winters wouldn't be punitive. I also like the outdoor pool here. Randomly, the water tastes a little worse than the swimming pool water back home (sometimes I inadvertently get some in my mouth), but swimming in an outdoor pool is really fun. I remember thinking, as I moved in the warm water with the sun overhead, "This is the life."

What is your ideal place to live (if there is such a thing)?

I like Florida!
I would probably move further south within Florida given the opportunity again. I used to live in Fort Myers which is a couple hours south of Tampa.
I don't like being cold and Jax gets chilly in the winter.
Nothing compared to NYC though I'm sure.

I'm laughing at Tracy's comment that it "gets chilly" in Jacksonville. HA! When it gets to be 45 here, it feels like spring!

But I digress. I used to think I wanted to live somewhere with seasons, somewhere the leaves change color in the fall (basically, where I live right now), but I'm really over this winter crap. It does, however, make one appreciate spring and summer. I think I'd like to live on the west coast--Oregon, Washington (where my family is originally from), or northern California. The temperatures aren't extreme, but there's still a hint of seasonal change.

Or maybe somewhere in the Mediterranean or Australia. Just to be adventurous.

I think I'd have to visit all the states then decide. I loved Maine but I hate all the slow drivers.

I'm glad you're having fun.

I like FL but it's so humid there. Oh, and having to evacuate for hurricanes wasn't fun as a kid either. We also used to have tornado drills and hid under our desks. I feel like I am safe here in TX but it gets SO hot in the summer and it's almost unbearable sometimes. We've thought about moving somewhere in between. If money or job were not obstacles then I would probably pick somewhere in Europe.

I second Northern Caliornia. I also wouldn't mind Prague, Munich, or Northampton MA - but not for more than a couple of years at a time.

In the U.S.? Maybe Maine in the summer months and the California mountains in the summer months? If I could choose anywhere in the world though, I'd pick Great Britain. Love it...except their food.

I'm feeling pretty good about where I am right now (Edmonton) except for when it got REALLY SUPER EXTREMELY COLD this winter. Having a high of -38C is not my cup of tea.

Well, we looked at some houses with a realtor while we were in FL for Christmas, but no further action has been taken.

Ideally? California would work for me. I loved it when we lived there.
