A compendium of comments

R, who works at the hotel: Now, you told me it was a boy, so next year if I say it's a girl, you can hit me, okay? (I told him, "I'll dress him in blue all week." Yes, we're planning to still make our annual sojourn to Miami after E's arrival. Everyone says OMG, YOU WILL NEVER TRAVEL AGAIN, but we saw lots of babies at the airport and on South Beach.)

Woman in the swimming pool locker room, child in tow: Ooh, congratulations! I want another one! I want five more! (I was thinking, "I'd rather just have your body." After E is born, of course. But her figure did give me hope, because if I hadn't seen her kid, I would not have believed she had one.)

Many, many men: Congratulations! Is it a boy or a girl? ("A boy," I tell them.) You must be happy! they say to D. On the plane, D said, "It's funny they all think I'll be thrilled because it's a boy." I asked him, "How would you feel if it was a girl?" D said, "I'd be thrilled either way."

I did work with a guy once, though, who said that "every guy" wanted a boy, and "no guy" wanted a girl, but he would be happy with a girl, although I shouldn't tell anyone. I'm serious. (He ended up having a boy.)

One-half of a lesbian couple (I stopped to pat their bulldog): How far along are you? (I said, "26 weeks." I'm 27 and a half weeks now.) You're big for 26 weeks! Are you having twins? ("No.") You're going to go early. 36 weeks and you're done. Mmm-hmm. (Pregnancy is usually 40 weeks.)

And the sweetest comment, from the guy who drove us from the airport to our apartment last night: Your baby will be beautiful. From you and you (pointing to each of us.)

You're so lucky you get to go to Miami. There's always lots of children in airports, trains, buses, etc. So if you want to travel with your kid, you won't be alone.

Hey, maybe the lesbian was right--maybe E's just maturing early.

As for the lady in the locker room, just think Heidi Klum! I'm sure you'll be in great shape afterwards too.

Silverstar - are you a Miami fan? I

Tracy - wasn't it? I hope he is beautiful and not hurt by the things that periodically bump into him (even though I try to avoid it). My doctor said not to worry about it.

Kitkat - I hope so!

Italy is also kid-friendly. :)

Also, E is protected by all the fluid around him... I wouldn't worry about bumps. They probably don't phase him at all. :)

Thanks, Liz :) That's what the doctor said, too. I actually have my eye on Hawaii at some point...hopefully that's a kid-friendly destination :)

We traveled with Sammie when he was eighteen months. It's doable, but tiring. We were going from CA to Maine so it was a long one.
