The pile

I'm currently reading Kaaterskill Falls by Allegra Goodman. I enjoyed The Cookbook Collector so much that I decided to delve into her previous works. I've tried Intuition several times (always from the library) and I just can't get into it. This time I got as far as the lab mice they are using to study tumors in vivo. I just can't read that stuff.

Coincidentally, Allegra Goodman is reading at a park near me on July 29th. I am thinking about going, though honestly, it is stinking hot here and sometimes it is better to be indoors with the A/C and fan.

I got Election from the library because I've read everything else by Tom Perrotta, but he doesn't seem to want to write anything new. I delayed reading this one because I've already seen the movie.

Linger is the sequel to Shiver, which I liked...kind of a benign rip-off of Twilight, starring werewolves. Also with better writing.

Jennifer Weiner is an old favorite. I met her at a bookstore reading years ago and took a picture of us with a crappy cell phone camera. I still have it somewhere.

just read the NY times review on Intuition... they even say Goodman mixes up the messages in the book... also the ending is not too cool... won't tell u it, but if I read the book I would be disappointed... they did mention the mice description and I can see why u couldn't get through it... I must admit I haven't heard of the other books- U definitely have an eclectic taste which is good... Stay near that A/C, tho I totally understand why you would want to be outside reading- its my favorite spot too.

I met Jennifer Weiner years ago too, when she gave a talk in Philadelphia. I just finished Fly Away Home, and I love reading about all the Philadelphia landmarks she mentions in the story!

I just started the Cookbook Collector. Couldn't get into it at first, but will keep going because you like it so much.

Cookbook Collector was really good, I just wish she hadn't used 9/11 as a plot element. It wasn't too central, though; could have been worse.

The new Weiner is really good. I think it's her best in a while.

I read a fair amount of Kaaterskill Falls but it didn't have the same magic as Cookbook Collector for me. Sigh. I guess I felt like it was more about the community than the individual characters? Maybe I should have hung in there.
