Okay, I am ready for some warmth. I admire those who enjoy outdoor winter sports, but I am not one of them. It is so forbidding and grey outside.

On the plus side, I picked up some books for my trip:
The English Major by Jim Harrison (slightly folksy, funny, and maybe wise)
Ms. Taken Identity by Dan Begley (seems to be chick lit, though written by a man)
The Epicure's Lament by Kate Christensen (who just doesn't seem to go wrong; her novel Jeremy Thrane seems to be hard to find, though. I'll have to get it on Amazon.)

What are you reading?

Also, I am girding my loins, readying for battle, pick your own metaphor, with regard to bringing E on the plane. I've never done this before. He tends to throw up on long car rides; hopefully this won't happen on a flight. I will also need to bring bottles for him. I've heard vague stories about having to drink from the bottle to satisfy security. We'll see...

if you nurse him during takeoff/landing, it should help. I hope he sleeps. dose him with Benadryl if you must; seriously.

I started Anna Karenina last month, but I've kind of stalled with it. It's really long and WORDY. Have you ever read it?

Not insensitive at all :) I did stop nursing, but that's cool. I've never read The Birthing House. Curious now...

Vegetable personalities

At the risk that you'll all think I'm nuts...but heck. I was getting cauliflower ready for dinner and it occurred to me that vegetables have different personalities. In my mind, anyway. Zucchini: the most agreeable of vegetables. It blends in with everyone, but it's never obsequious or false to itself. Sweet potatoes: the grandmother of vegetables. Very cozy and welcoming. happy birthday e!

[Posted by Bearette's husband until she has Internet access] e was born today! 8 pounds even, a cute and healthy baby boy. He likes to stick out his tongue just a little, and move his mouth around. The hospital gave him a little white hat with a purple pom pom. Bearette is tired but happy. Pictures soon.

Eventful

A lot has happened today already. I went to meet D for lunch and along the way I spotted a Boston terrier -- one blue eye, one brown. I stooped to pat it and then I heard an ear-bruising screech!! Everyone's head whipped around. Even the dog jumped. A taxi had squealed to a halt and there was a delivery boy on its hood. Somebody yelled, "Call an ambulance!" The boy seemed fine, even hopping on his bike to finish his deliveries -- but everyone persuaded him to stay. I took out my cell phone but another woman was already giving details to 911. After the woman finished the call, I was satisfied that help was on its way, so I continued. There were a bunch of rubberneckers/supporters gathered around the boy, so he wasn't alone. The dog stayed too. I was shaken by this, of course, but then something amusing happened.
