Today's appointment

So I went to the doctor's office today. I dilated a centimeter more and got 10% more effaced, bringing me to 4 cm, 80% effaced. Also, I lost a pound...shallow or not, it was a thrill to see the little black bar move in the "right" direction. Of course I checked with the doctor to make sure this is ok. She assured me that the baby will continue to gain weight, about half a pound a week, and my weight will just indicate how much water I'm retaining.

I asked the doc to estimate how much he weighs now and she said he's about 7 lbs, 4 oz, "which is big." Didn't sound big to me, but I realized she meant "big for 37 weeks," especially since I may have 3 weeks to go. Her guess is that he will weigh in the "high eights" when he comes out. I found a chart online and saw that the average fetal weight for 37 weeks is 6 lbs, 3 oz. So he's about 1 lb, 1 ounce above average. Not bad...

I think my brother and I were both in the high 8's, or at least somewhere in the 8's, so surely it can't be that big.

Yeah, 8 is doable. It was when I thought he'd be 10 or 11 lbs that I was getting nervous ;)

Hi preggy woman! My son was a whopping 10.1 pounds when he was born. The doctor had no choice but to cut me open. It wasn't too bad though. I didn't have to go through any labor pains and Niccolo turned out absolutely perfect when he came out. =)

10 pounds! Wow! You're right, he is perfect :) I'm afraid of the knife but what happens, happens, I guess...

At the risk that you'll all think I'm nuts...but heck. I was getting cauliflower ready for dinner and it occurred to me that vegetables have different personalities. In my mind, anyway. The return of Rudolph

Rudolph is our small furry friend, whom I've never seen. He visited the kitchen last night while D was up late. I know this because: 1) A large sonic device is plugged in right in front of the crack between the oven and the wall. The sonic devices in the living room have kept Rudolph away from there, his previous hideaway. Apparently the cracks between appliances and the wall are harder to reach. 2) The mop has been moved from the hall closet to the kitchen closet. This means D tried to capture Rudolph. 3) A turtle magnet I haven't seen in a while is now on the fridge. That means it fell behind the oven and D found it during his interactions with Rudolph. (I am praying hard that Rudolph is a boy, since we don't want to find many small Rudolphs.) What makes me feel better about this whole thing is that mice are apparently everywhere this winter; even my brother has had problems with them. happy birthday e!

[Posted by Bearette's husband until she has Internet access] e was born today! 8 pounds even, a cute and healthy baby boy. He likes to stick out his tongue just a little, and move his mouth around. The hospital gave him a little white hat with a purple pom pom. Bearette is tired but happy. Pictures soon.
