Hiccups and sniffs

I always see a West Highland terrier in the same spot when I take an after-dinner walk. (Last night, dinner was mushroom and Swiss cheese quesadillas...they were good, but for some reason, they made my stomach hurt). Anyway, the dog is always at the corner of 8th Ave. and West 12th St., on the course of its own walk. I bent down to pat it and happened to sniff (I was a little congested) and the dog jumped a mile. I reassured it that everything was ok, it was a very good dog and I just happened to be sniffling. Then it licked my nose and went on its way.

This reminded me of my own dog, who lived from 1983 to 2001. One of her quirks was a fear of hiccups. If you hiccuped near her, she was convinced that she had done something terribly wrong. Nothing could persuade her otherwise. She would sit at your feet and look up at you apologetically. It always made me feel bad about hiccuping, though it was cute and funny also.

What are your pet's peccadillos?

(And...I might have a guest-written entry soon, continuing the story from my last post. And my knitting class meets in 6 days!)

Alex has too many peccadillos to detail here, but I love him anyway. :)

Probably in part because of them :) I love that dogs have such distinct personalities.

Rowen is Woody Allen in dog form. Bicycles, rollerblades, kitchens other than her own, sewer grates and storm drains, kittens, strong breezes (but not thunderstorms), sneezes . . .

(P.S. This is Lisa but stupid blogger won't let me use my old account name anymore and I can't remember my google account and I hate that they made me change. Boo Blogger)

Blogger (or rather Google) is evil! I think google is behind the changes. I miss Rowen, give her a pat for me :)

I'm really excited for you and your knitting class. Talk about passive--I'm living varcariously through you because of your knitting.

Sweet story about both dogs...

Nar (our Tonkinese cat) is insanely cosy, if that counts as a peccadillo, she'll sit, like a person, on her bum in your lap with her hind legs sticking out in front of her, front legs crossed like arms. It's too funny... She also has a habit of throwing herself into your arms without warning as you walk past.

WG - i love cats like that...the affectionate ones. i know one in brooklyn who always climbs into my lap. i wore a different jacket the last time i visit him, and he was a little put off...he sniffed it carefully.
