I just watched Away We Go. I liked it. It took 40 minutes for me to be sure I liked it, but then I was. It had Maya Rudolph and John Krasinski in it, and the screenplay was written by Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida (who is his wife or girlfriend or something, and also a writer). At first it had this hipster veneer that made me feel distant from the characters, but then that sort of fell away. And the music was very nice and acoustic. It's funny, I was considering buying the soundtrack based on the cover and general gestalt when I was in Portland, but didn't. It would have worked out fine, because I ended up liking the music.

Outside, the snow is pouring down. It's the snowiest winter since I moved to New York in 1999 - if not in terms of accumulation, then definitely in terms of frequency. And this time, it doesn't seem to be stopping. I'm a little bit afraid to go outside.

We have been getting none stop slush falls here, it's worst than snow.

I agree! The sidewalks are very slushy here. Difficult to push the stroller through.

It hasn't stopped snowing here for four days. The warmer temperatures lately melted most of it as soon as it fell, or at least kept it to an inch or two. Today though, it has come down in big fluffy flakes and is sitting a good three inches in the seven hours I was at work today.

Vegetable personalities

At the risk that you'll all think I'm nuts...but heck. I was getting cauliflower ready for dinner and it occurred to me that vegetables have different personalities. In my mind, anyway. The return of Rudolph

Rudolph is our small furry friend, whom I've never seen. He visited the kitchen last night while D was up late. I know this because: 1) A large sonic device is plugged in right in front of the crack between the oven and the wall. The sonic devices in the living room have kept Rudolph away from there, his previous hideaway. Apparently the cracks between appliances and the wall are harder to reach. 2) The mop has been moved from the hall closet to the kitchen closet. This means D tried to capture Rudolph. 3) A turtle magnet I haven't seen in a while is now on the fridge. That means it fell behind the oven and D found it during his interactions with Rudolph. (I am praying hard that Rudolph is a boy, since we don't want to find many small Rudolphs.) What makes me feel better about this whole thing is that mice are apparently everywhere this winter; even my brother has had problems with them. happy birthday e!

[Posted by Bearette's husband until she has Internet access] e was born today! 8 pounds even, a cute and healthy baby boy. He likes to stick out his tongue just a little, and move his mouth around. The hospital gave him a little white hat with a purple pom pom. Bearette is tired but happy. Pictures soon.
