What a tasty finger...

E always beams when he sees the "soft baby rabbit" in the book, though I didn't capture it here.

He also smiles and laughs at baby pictures (in a joyous, non-mocking way), whether they're his own or pictures of Liz's baby on Facebook. He has a new habit of yelling "Dada!" at men who look nothing like D (an Indian man in Massachusetts, a Mexican man at a sandwich shop). Fortunately, they were amused.

I changed my mind about Disney World. I'm not sure I'm up for a vacation with a baby. D was understanding.

I like that there's a possibility that E could laugh in a mocking way--take that, other babies! I saw a baby over the weekend who was quite drawn to one of the other men in the room because both his dad and this guy had on red shirts.

Funny you mention that about Disney World. Mark's whole family is going next week. We are not, as you well know, but I think I would wait till N is old enough to enjoy it...and till little brother is too. :) Maybe in a couple of years. But for this year, i think we'll rent a cottage in Maine!

Curly hair! Lucky boy.

L loves other babies, too. And he adores looking at himself in the mirror, too, though I guess he doesn't yet realize it's his own reflection.

his hair is just now starting to curl. it was straight for a while, which was genetically puzzling since mine is wavy and d's is curly....

Vegetable personalities

At the risk that you'll all think I'm nuts...but heck. I was getting cauliflower ready for dinner and it occurred to me that vegetables have different personalities. In my mind, anyway. Zucchini: the most agreeable of vegetables. It blends in with everyone, but it's never obsequious or false to itself. Sweet potatoes: the grandmother of vegetables. Very cozy and welcoming. Eat, knit and be happy

So I went to knitting class today. It was a lot of fun. The knitting cafe was buried deep in the Village, further south than I tend to go, but I found it after a little bit of exploring. The cafe itself was just adorable. Their motto is the title of this post. There was a counter where they sold brownies, tea and other goodies (my attention was caught and held by the nice, thick, chocolatey brownies). Two other women showed up for the class. One of them just got a part in a student-written play (she was maybe in her 40s) and had to knit in a scene while arguing with her husband. She wanted to be able to knit convincingly. The instructor commended her for this, noting that often in the movies when people are supposed to be knitting, they're not doing it right and it takes her out of the story ;) Knitting is surprisingly easy if someone teaches you live. happy birthday e!

[Posted by Bearette's husband until she has Internet access] e was born today! 8 pounds even, a cute and healthy baby boy. He likes to stick out his tongue just a little, and move his mouth around. The hospital gave him a little white hat with a purple pom pom. Bearette is tired but happy. Pictures soon.
