So...I suppose this is very preliminary because the second kid is not even conceived (indeed, I am still nursing, and that is supposed to make conception difficult. But theoretically, I'll wean E at 1 year. I say "theoretically" because (a) he loves it, (b) it gets him to sleep, and (c) it burns 500 calories a day. So is there really any reason to stop?!?) But anyway, D and I picked out names.

For a girl:
Ella Ginger. Ginger used to be a front-runner for the first name, but I determined it was more of a fling. Not durable. We might get sick of saying it 3,000 times a day. It's funny because we don't even address E by name that much - we often call him "little baby," "muffin," etc. But other people always ask what his name is, and we say it then.

For a boy:
Harry Leo. D is really, really picky about boys' names - these are the only two we both liked.

I don't think either of those will be making it to that website :) I think Ginger is fun.

I'm pickier about boys' names than girls' also. Only I'm picky because I don't want a long name that I have to shorten, and it's more difficult to find a boys' name I like that also fits that description.

I'm going to admit something that might seem a bit weird. Sometimes at night, to help me fall asleep, I go through the alphabet and I think of a name I might like for a future child for each letter. I usually don't make it through the whole alphabet for boys and girls.

I really like the name Ella. It's simple and classy.

I think boys names are harder sometimes, or maybe that's just me. There's a lady I know who named her son Jaaron - Aaron with a J in front. And then another lady took that and just named her son Jaron. I've always thought either of those is kind of cool - different but not totally "out there" either.

kitkat - that's fun! maybe you should post some of the ideas on your blog :)

suzy - thanks! i like it too. Boys' names are definitely harder.

You say boys' names are harder because you're girls. Personally, I can come up with boys' names if asked. Girls' names leave me humming and hawing.

While I do like Ella (and I think everyone should have an odd middle name; it adds character) there is the risk of having your kids start with the same initial.

This isn't neccessarily a bad thing. I know several families whose kids all start with the same initial, eg. Jason, Jasmine, Jolie.

My sister dated a one of seven brothers and sisters; all their names started with D.

I like the names starting with the same initial. I'd be hard pressed to come up with seven, though.

Which boys' names would you choose?

I'm friends with a couple where the husband is the oldest of 7, and all 7 kids have the same initials! Can you imagine having to come up with 7 J's AND 7 A's? Yikes!

that family in Arkansas with 17 kids? All start with Js.

Babel- didn't they just have #18? INSANE.

Bearette- I'm especially partial to one of those boy names. ;)

Thought you might like that one :)

Well, if you're doing deliberately, then…

Boys names: Nathan James is my favourite. Connor and Owen are my two runners-up.

The only girls names I can come up with are Kayleigh, Cailtin, and Erin. Mybe Anne as a middle name.

I posted my alphabet list of baby names. Enjoy!

P.S. I imagine you'll call E by his name more often if/when the second baby comes. Then you'll have the problem my mom had of not being able to spit out the right name the first time. I can't tell you how many times I was called "Er-Kate" (my sister's name is Erika) or "Chri-Kate" (my brother Chris). At least she only had three to choose from. Now, oddly enough, she occasionally mixes my name up with the cat's name, Abby.

I think my mom used to mix up me and the dog, Pepper :)

My husband and I went out to dinner the other night and I couldn't help but notice the people at a table near us. It was two couples and two babies. I actually think the babies were twins. But the couple on one side of the table each had a baby and they were making them dance around and jiggling their bellies.
I looked at Chris and commented that perhaps there isn't much difference between having a baby and having Apple (our yorkie).
We make Apple dance all the time! : )

Just thought I would share.
So someday I might be sitting at a table making Violet or Jake dance/wiggle for my friends. LOL!

I'm an advocate for nursing as long as you want. Bet you never would have guessed, huh? LOL

c - how long did you go?
Caro said…
Bearette - Probably what most people would consider too long. My first self-weaned at ten months. My second two were going to self wean also, or so I thought. Azure was unhappily weaned at three years and Sammy was unhappily weaned at four years. Most people would consider that way too long. I kept putting off weaning. I am the QUEEN of procrastination. One of the reasons I went the extra year with Sammy was because I thought it might help with his brain development.
