Christmas in January

So today was my belated Christmas celebration in Massachusetts. E's cousins came over and made much of him. He got an adorable Carter's sleeper with friendly blue and green dinosaurs on it - I'll try to put a picture up later. He is also the proud possessor of a new musical train, a snow globe, and other enticements. I got the Guernsey Potato Peel book and a cookbook called La Dolce Vegan, among other gifts. Now that I like cauliflower, it's like a whole new recipe world has opened up.

I'm currently finishing up a library book called Earthly Pleasures - not the most realistic book ever, but fun. It's partially set in heaven. Lately I've been enjoying library books more than purchased books, so I haven't bought many. I'm not sure why I like the library ones better - maybe it's the knowledge that I don't have to find room for them.

For me, the nice thing about library books is that if I don't like the book, I haven't wasted anything except time. I'm more willing to read stuff that I'm not sure about.

You have a new love of cauliflower; I have a new love of blueberries. I didn't used to like them very much, but they are delicious in cereal!

I like library books better because I don't have to pay for them. (not counting late fees)

I love the library... I like that I can just walk up and down the aisles and grab whatever strikes my fancy... because if it stinks, well... at least I didn't BUY it! : )

Are you still knitting? I haven't seen any knitted photos lately!

Vegetable personalities

At the risk that you'll all think I'm nuts...but heck. I was getting cauliflower ready for dinner and it occurred to me that vegetables have different personalities. In my mind, anyway. Zucchini: the most agreeable of vegetables. It blends in with everyone, but it's never obsequious or false to itself. Sweet potatoes: the grandmother of vegetables. Very cozy and welcoming. The return of Rudolph

Rudolph is our small furry friend, whom I've never seen. He visited the kitchen last night while D was up late. I know this because: 1) A large sonic device is plugged in right in front of the crack between the oven and the wall. The sonic devices in the living room have kept Rudolph away from there, his previous hideaway. Apparently the cracks between appliances and the wall are harder to reach. 2) The mop has been moved from the hall closet to the kitchen closet. This means D tried to capture Rudolph. 3) A turtle magnet I haven't seen in a while is now on the fridge. That means it fell behind the oven and D found it during his interactions with Rudolph. (I am praying hard that Rudolph is a boy, since we don't want to find many small Rudolphs.) What makes me feel better about this whole thing is that mice are apparently everywhere this winter; even my brother has had problems with them. happy birthday e!

[Posted by Bearette's husband until she has Internet access] e was born today! 8 pounds even, a cute and healthy baby boy. He likes to stick out his tongue just a little, and move his mouth around. The hospital gave him a little white hat with a purple pom pom. Bearette is tired but happy. Pictures soon.
