Foliage


Here's a hat I finished today. The beginning was really hard, but I'm glad I persevered because I like the way it came out. The alpaca/silk yarn is very soft.

That's adorable! I wish I wore hats more often because they're definitely cute, and generally they're quick knits. Do you have any aversion to knitting in the summertime? I feel a knitting slump coming on because the weather has been so nice lately.

Kate - I feel a slight dampening of enthusiasm right now, but I think it's more because I've been knitting obsessively for a while. Although, maybe the warm weather does have an impact...I can see how living in California might make it difficult to knit.

Vegetable personalities

At the risk that you'll all think I'm nuts...but heck. I was getting cauliflower ready for dinner and it occurred to me that vegetables have different personalities. In my mind, anyway. Zucchini: the most agreeable of vegetables. It blends in with everyone, but it's never obsequious or false to itself. Sweet potatoes: the grandmother of vegetables. Very cozy and welcoming. Cauliflower: kind of bland, devoid of personality, but it could surprise you sometimes. Like a dull guy who occasionally tells a funny joke at the water cooler. Broccoli: feisty. Like a terrier. a certified yoga instructor. Finally! The day started with brunch with TN at Le Gamin. They have one branch at 9th and 21st where it takes them an hour to make French toast (no exaggeration). So we tried their new branch on 15th between 7th and 8th. No wait and the service was much better. TN felt that the bread was weird, which I guess it was, but you can't have everything. Then we saw The Family Stone, the new movie with SJP, Diane Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Luke Wilson, Claire Danes and Dermot Mulroney. I was a little disappointed. It was about SJP clashing with Dermot Mulroney's family. Then there was a switcheroo where people ended up with different boyfriends/girlfriends. The movie made me like Dermot Mulroney less and Luke Wilson better. Luke was probably the best part of the movie. He had a very funny dream about SJP. Then I had my yoga graduation.
