E's favorite word is "book." Sometimes when he wakes up, he sits in his crib and says it. He puts a little extra emphasis on the k: BooK, booK.

Today at the toddler room, where I can basically sit on my butt as he plays with the toys and pushes trucks around the room, he spotted the bookshelf. "BooK, booK!" he started to chant. My heart sank when I saw the selection. We have great children's books at home, but these were, um...let's just say there was a biography of Ronald Reagan. I don't want E to grow up thinking that ketchup is a vegetable! ;)

I was always disappointed in the selection of books at doctor's offices. Mostly Disney (not literature) and other character types. I took a Children's Lit. class and have been book snobbish ever since. ;) I think that's great that your apartment building has playrooms for the children. What a great way to meet the neighbors and form a community. (got it in the right spot this time, hehe)

Do you have the book Little Gorilla? L loves that one- he roars when he sees the lion, and laughs when Little Gorilla gets big.

Weirdly enough, yes. It was called "Who Was Ronald Reagan?" I don't have that one, but it sounds cute :)

Naturally. What toddler doesn't want to read about Ronald Reagan? :) I do think it's cute when kids like books and are attracted to them just sitting on a shelf. It's inspiring.

Vegetable personalities

At the risk that you'll all think I'm nuts...but heck. I was getting cauliflower ready for dinner and it occurred to me that vegetables have different personalities. In my mind, anyway. happy birthday e!

[Posted by Bearette's husband until she has Internet access] e was born today! 8 pounds even, a cute and healthy baby boy. He likes to stick out his tongue just a little, and move his mouth around. The hospital gave him a little white hat with a purple pom pom. Bearette is tired but happy. Pictures soon.

Eventful

A lot has happened today already. I went to meet D for lunch and along the way I spotted a Boston terrier -- one blue eye, one brown. I stooped to pat it and then I heard an ear-bruising screech!! Everyone's head whipped around. Even the dog jumped. A taxi had squealed to a halt and there was a delivery boy on its hood. Somebody yelled, "Call an ambulance!" The boy seemed fine, even hopping on his bike to finish his deliveries -- but everyone persuaded him to stay. I took out my cell phone but another woman was already giving details to 911. After the woman finished the call, I was satisfied that help was on its way, so I continued. There were a bunch of rubberneckers/supporters gathered around the boy, so he wasn't alone. The dog stayed too. I was shaken by this, of course, but then something amusing happened.
