Perhaps it's unpatriotic of me to admit this, but I hate fireworks. I like the holiday itself; it was a nice relaxed day. But the fireworks are on the Hudson River this year (a few blocks away) as opposed to the East River (all the way across town) and it feels like the apartment is under siege. I'm waiting for it to be over.

I'm reading Emily, Alone by Stewart O'Nan. For whatever reason, I don't usually like male authors, but I'm digging this book.

I agree!. When I had a dog, I dreaded fireworks going off.. She would whimper, whine... My cat seems to not be bothered by them, wonder if its her haughty nature?? lol....I don't like fireworks because we have a law which no one follows.. Mind u, its the ADULTS who seem to drive past the county line to buy them and set them off...Says a lot about adults doesn't it?

I like seeing them but not hearing them. Every time my brother-in-law set one off, I found myself screaming out loud at the noise. Also, I'm always afraid someone will set our house on fire while we are away watching the fireworks.
