Well...I ended up caving with the books. I know. That was fast. In my defense, the only branch library in easy walking distance is tiny, so I have to use interlibrary loan, and it takes forever. It used to be faster; I think there were budget cuts. So anyway. We took a family trip to Borders. I got:

The Tale of Halcyon Crane, Wendy Webb

I've started Outlander.

I'm still going strong with the clothes and yarn. I have 3 projects on the needles: this, this and this.

nothing wrong w/hitting Borders...I'm reading Jon Krakauer's book on Pat Tillman... good read, then again anything by Krakauer is good.

I love that first project (the capelet/cardigan). I have a couple sweaters like that, and I love them. Currently, I have 8 skeins of yarn waiting to be made into my first full-length cardigan. It's supposed to be my fall project, but I've been reluctant to start it.

Also, I commend you for trying not to buy stuff. Books are so tempting! I've been trying to use the library more, but there are also book swaps that I've been meaning to look into.

Big projects can be hard to dive into :) But usually fun once you start. I also like when the cardigan is cropped or short-sleeved...long sleeves can take forever.

Vegetable personalities

At the risk that you'll all think I'm nuts...but heck. I was getting cauliflower ready for dinner and it occurred to me that vegetables have different personalities. In my mind, anyway. happy birthday e!

[Posted by Bearette's husband until she has Internet access] e was born today! 8 pounds even, a cute and healthy baby boy. He likes to stick out his tongue just a little, and move his mouth around. The hospital gave him a little white hat with a purple pom pom. Bearette is tired but happy. Pictures soon.

Eventful

A lot has happened today already. I went to meet D for lunch and along the way I spotted a Boston terrier -- one blue eye, one brown. I stooped to pat it and then I heard an ear-bruising screech!! Everyone's head whipped around. Even the dog jumped. A taxi had squealed to a halt and there was a delivery boy on its hood. Somebody yelled, "Call an ambulance!" The boy seemed fine, even hopping on his bike to finish his deliveries -- but everyone persuaded him to stay. I took out my cell phone but another woman was already giving details to 911. After the woman finished the call, I was satisfied that help was on its way, so I continued. There were a bunch of rubberneckers/supporters gathered around the boy, so he wasn't alone. The dog stayed too. I was shaken by this, of course, but then something amusing happened.
