I am making some mittens that I love. I broke the yarn fast today, buying some bulky Madeline Tosh in a colorway called "Molly Ringwald." The shade is pale pink. I don't know why I resisted this pattern for so long. I guess the strange gauge (2 1/4 stitches per inch) and the woven cuff scared me off. I shouldn't have been afraid. The pattern is in Speed Knitting by Kris Percival. She has never led me wrong yet.

I finished The Blue Bistro and am a little bit in mourning for it. I added a bunch of Elin Hilderbrand books to my library hold list. Now I'm reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which doesn't grip me as much as a novel would, but is quite interesting. Bear in mind I almost never read nonfiction.

See, I knew u'd be back to knitting... I've gotten into Picoult. I think u said u read her and weren't too thrilled? Somehow she strikes a chord in me... Love collecting and reading her.I'm reading one of her oldies...

Oh, I never stopped knitting...just stopped buying yarn. I was using old yarn. Glad you like Picoult. Which one are you reading?

Oh! I don't remember seeing that in Speed Knitting. I gave my book to my mom/sister when I was teaching them how to knit because 1) I got it super cheap 2) it has all those instructions in the back and 3) the patterns are quick and easy for beginners. Naturally, now that I don't have the book, I see a pattern I really like from it :-) I noticed that a lot (or all) of the patterns from that book are on Ravelry.

Vegetable personalities

At the risk that you'll all think I'm nuts...but heck. I was getting cauliflower ready for dinner and it occurred to me that vegetables have different personalities. In my mind, anyway. Zucchini: the most agreeable of vegetables. It blends in with everyone, but it's never obsequious or false to itself. Sweet potatoes: the grandmother of vegetables. Very cozy and welcoming. [Posted by Bearette's husband until she has Internet access] e was born today! 8 pounds even, a cute and healthy baby boy. He likes to stick out his tongue just a little, and move his mouth around. Eventful

A lot has happened today already. I went to meet D for lunch and along the way I spotted a Boston terrier -- one blue eye, one brown. I stooped to pat it and then I heard an ear-bruising screech!! Everyone's head whipped around. Even the dog jumped. A taxi had squealed to a halt and there was a delivery boy on its hood. Somebody yelled, "Call an ambulance!" The boy seemed fine, even hopping on his bike to finish his deliveries -- but everyone persuaded him to stay. I took out my cell phone but another woman was already giving details to 911. After the woman finished the call, I was satisfied that help was on its way, so I continued. There were a bunch of rubberneckers/supporters gathered around the boy, so he wasn't alone. The dog stayed too. I was shaken by this, of course, but then something amusing happened.
