Proust is not really my style but I can totally see why the madeleine sparked reminiscence...this morning as I was making pancakes, I ate a little of the batter (with raw egg) and remembered how there used to be shakes with raw eggs in them. Morning shakes with banana and wheat germ. Does anybody remember these? If so, do you know how to make one (the proportions)? I would love to.

Ugh... I have memories of drinking raw eggs in my childhood. My mom used Carnation Instant Breakfast and mixed a raw egg into each one, then made us drink them before we went to the school bus stop. I don't think that's the kind of shake to which you refer, though. She did put wheat germ into everything she baked; I always yearned to have pancakes with no wheat germ "freckles" in them.

love proust love sense memory I remember people talking about raw egg shakes but I haven't had one...like almost any kind of shake/smoothie tho.
