The food at thanksgiving was really good. My sister brought puff pastry tarts with Brie and jam. I also had root vegetables and potato salad (vinaigrette dressing instead of mayonnaise).
I’m reading Michelle Obama’s book. Slow start, but now it’s engaging.
I always have an urge to skip Thanksgiving. My son is really excited though.
My hairdresser’s daughter goes to college in New York and lives at home. I want Zoe to do the same thing. She agreed to go to college in New York, but she wants to see if her roommate is nice first.
I tweeted about Sisters on Netflix and one of the actresses retweeted it. I feel famous now :)
My skin seems to think I’m a teenager. I keep getting pimples.
The kids started school today. It feels a little strange.
Just finished Anne Tyler’s new novel. So good.
I just finished The Last Cruise by Kate Christensen. It was well-written, but it had one of those strange endings where you couldn't tell if they died or not. Also, I never want to take a cruise again.
Trump supporters are SO STUPID. It's not even subtle.
I just finished Elin Hilderbrand's new book, The Perfect Couple. The title actually had nothing to do with the story, it was basically a murder mystery. There was an ongoing theme about things and people not being what they seemed. As usual, her characters had great names - Siobhan Crispin (a caterer), Merritt Monaco (an Instagram influencer), and Featherleigh Dale (British antique seller). The ending was a little sad. But overall I loved it. Fortunately she has another book coming out in October.
I just had a moment of nostalgia for the Awesome Blossom at Chili's. It probably had 2000 calories, but it was delicious. So was the dipping sauce.
Eric is going to be 10 tomorrow! He had a pool party today (the billiards kind).
I love Lush bath bombs. You throw one in the bath and it looks like some sherbet exploded in there.
Reading The Ensemble by Aja Gabel. I really like it.
I was indifferent to the royal wedding previously, but I got sucked in a bit. I didn't watch the wedding itself, but everyone was tweeting about it. I liked her gown (Givenchy, simple and elegant).
A while ago, I had a book drought. Now I have so many, I'm not sure which one to start. #lucky
I made wacky cake, mixed right in the pan, no eggs. It's delicious, and tastes a bit like brownies.
Sorry, but I am totally indifferent to the royal wedding.
Reading Circling the Sun, by Paula McLain, about Beryl Markham. Really enjoying it. She’s written two other good books, about Hemingway’s first and third wives.
Making some banana wheat germ muffins. They smell good. And the batter was divine.
Last night, I had a strange dream, which I may have had before. I was staying at a hotel on the water, and as you walked from one end of the hotel to the other, the time zone changed. It was a bit startling and chilling to find it getting darker and darker as I headed for the later time zone.
I never thought I’d say this, but I miss romaine.
Facebook is getting to be a big bore. I like Twitter and Instagram better.
I finished watching The Crown last night. It didn't hit its stride until S1:E4, when a poisonous fog descended on London. After that, I was hooked. Each episode was like a history lesson (in a fun, interesting way). They're going to make at least two more seasons, but with a whole new cast, which seems a little off-putting.
"She recognized that that is how friendships begin: one person reveals a moment of strangeness, and the other person decides just to listen and not exploit it." - Meg Wolitzer, The Interestings
Just finished watching Mad Men. I got belatedly hooked on it on Netflix. Very interesting, thought-provoking show with smart writing and well-drawn characters.
Just finished Raspberry Danish Murder. They dropped a big bombshell at the end.
I finished watching all the episodes of Call the Midwife on Netflix. Now I want to see season 7 (which is currently airing on BBC), but I don't think there's a way to do it. On the bright side, I think the season will wrap in April, and hopefully Netflix will get it then.
Totally addicted to Call the Midwife.
Just finished How to Stop Time, it was fantastic. They're making it into a movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
I was having a bit of a book drought, but How to Stop Time by Matt Haig showed up on my Kindle today. (I had preordered.) Really fun book, about a man who is not immortal, but ages more slowly than anyone else (except a few others with the same condition). His daughter also has it, but he doesn't know where she is.
Anne Tyler has a new book coming out in August...very exciting. It's called Clock Dance.
Zoe is so sweet. "I love this potato because you made it."
Finishing up Fire and Fury. No big surprises, but it's entertaining. It portrays Trump more as a clown than a serious threat (hopefully, this is true). P.S. Just finished the book. Apparently Bannon wants to run for president in 2020.
