Happy New Year...

It's funny, I always feel a little sad when the ball drops. It's a new year...who knows what it will bring? I told my brother about this once and he said dubiously, "I never really saw it that way." We usually go out for New Year and then come back to see the ball drop on TV (never mind that it's pretty close!) and when everyone else jumps up and cheers, I have this moment of introspection.

It was a fun night, though. TW, sadly, was not able to come...she emailed to accept at first, then to decline because she was staying in NJ with her sore throat...I didn't get her decline email until later. She is teaching her first yoga class on the 2nd, and I am definitely going to that! (My first class is on the 12th.)

Lobo commented that it was a subdued New Year. It's true, last year we walked back from the same restaurant and people yelled, "Happy New Year!" from cars and a bar was playing, "Pour Some Sugar on Me" at top volume. I didn't mind, though. It was more mature ;)

We had a Thai dinner with some friends (S wore a puffy, Asian-new-year-style snake around his neck!), then went to the bubble tea place that used to be called Saint's Alp. Yes, it was oddly punctuated ;) Now it's called Teariffic. I had some kind of orange juice/passionfruit/curacao drink (or some other blue stuff at the bottom) and shared a "mung bean shake" with AT. The mung bean shake was curiously good...kind of a cross between split pea soup and a drink. AT said it was like drinking breakfast cereal.

We took the subway home and the conductor tried to shut the door on AT! AT felt it was because of his singing. Later, the conductor tried to shut the door on me, but D held the doors open and I was able to get out. Awww....

We watched a bit of Dick Clark's "Rockin'" New Year's Eve, just to see the ball drop. My SIL strenuously objected to Mariah Carey's dress. "I would never wear that dress," she said, "especially if I had a body like that." I thought she looked slutty, but that is the status quo, no? It wouldn't seem quite right otherwise. Then Hillary Duff came on, I became violently ill and we turned off the TV.

Also, did everyone notice that the 2006 sign looked like 2004 on TV? Lobo said we were going back. I wouldn't want to do that. 2004 was not one of my best years. I feel like things are going in the right direction now, although I will be psyched when I get a permanent yoga gig.

Happy New Year to you, too, and I'm glad you didn't get caught in the subway doors. When I got out of the train, it was exactly midnight, and the fireworks were going off in the park down 72nd street. - AT

My husband gags at Hilary Duff too. I'm glad the subway doors didn't make you into a Bearette sandwich.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
We watched the Dick Clark countdown also and agree that Mariah looked AWFUL. What was the point of her even being on there? My bf was grossed out, she did not need to wear that dress. And poor Dick Clark, he sounded like he was 200 years old. I barely made it to midnight - falling asleep at like 10 :) Got my 12 grapes in, champagne toast, and off to bed!

Lost - my friend AT just told me about the 12 grapes last night! He says it's hard to get them all in at once ;)

Yup, I have to do like 3 sets of 4..but you are supposed to get them all in w/in the first minute. No time for chit chat and toasts... gotta get 'em down. :)

And I always recommend the seedless ones. Much easier. Funny, when I was in MX last week they were advertising them ready to go in little cans - seedless, skinless, and ready to go - all 12.

Odd the going back illusion. Especially since this is one of the few new years we begin in a void of course moon.

I thought that about the 2006 sign, too! I thought maybe I'd just had a little too much wine. Or was getting a little too old.

T - What's a void of course moon?

L - Glad I wasn't the only one.

Luke and I watched a bit of Dick Clark that night, and I wanted to cry, he was so thin and frail. Kinda brought a damper on the celebration, but it's good to see that he's up and about again.

Bearette- I thought the same thing about the 2006. We tuned in just a couple of minutes before midnight. I heard Dick Clark's voice sounding frail and when he said "2006", I was seeing "2004" and I thought, poor Dick! He's saying the wrong year! Then my husband looked at me like I was crazy and I realized that it was indeed 2006. ;-)

Also agreed about Mariah Carey's dress. Wasn't she being the biggest diva? It kinda made me giggle.

Void moon is a funny astrological time between the moon's last hard angle and a new sign. These times are notorious to astrologers as they say we don't move forward and nothing gets acomplished, but I think voids present an important lessons on how to zen out and live in the moment.

Liz - Definitely a diva! She was positively preening.

T - Interesting. I feel like I'm moving forward, but in a yogic way - maybe that fits in with the zen part.

Happy New Year Bearette! I always feel a little sad on New Year's myself, but in my case it's because it means I have an impending birthday and that I just keep getting older.
Bearette said…
Yes! That is definitely part of it. I always think of the age I'm going to turn that year.
We watched movies and listened to H.I.M. We don't have cable, so can't watch the ball drop. Plus, there's always mediocre talent. Hillary Duff? Glad I missed it.

Yeah, I usually feel sad, but not this year. 2005 was tough for us. 2006 will be must better. Kind of a relief for that year to end.

Wtching the ball drop was always a delight for me, but now that I live in a different time zone it just feels odd to do so. I which they did something half-way as momentous in Central.
