New Year's Eve thoughts

So D and I had dinner, avec bebe, at Otto (a Mario Batali pizza joint) which is somehow both trendy and kid-friendly. I had a bellini (Prosecco and blood orange juice, which sounds creepy, but is tasty) and a balsamic onion/goat cheese pizza. Plus some brussels sprouts with "vin cotto" as an appetizer. (I don't know what vin cotto is, but the sprouts were yummy.) Then we got home, D was reading E a story, and I started wondering which authors I have read all of. (I believe that ending a sentence with a preposition is OK.) Here are the writers:

OK, that was a freakishly long list. To those of you who made it this far, HAPPY NEW YEAR! And the good news is:

1) The list was very easy to compile because LibraryThing has a list of every author I've read, and the ones I'd read all of jumped out.

2) Facebook is not killing Blogger. Facebook is the second most popular site, and Blogger is #8. Not too shabby. Courtesy of alexa.com.

Thanks! You too. The funny thing is, some of my favorite authors are not on there. I like Anita Shreve, but couldn't get into one of her books.

This has nothing to do with your list, but I had to comment on the preposition thing. I'm reading Origins of the Specious, and I'm only on page 35 or so, but it's been quite illuminating with regards to some of our sacred grammar rules. Yes, it's okay to end a sentence with a preposition.

Vegetable personalities

At the risk that you'll all think I'm nuts...but heck. I was getting cauliflower ready for dinner and it occurred to me that vegetables have different personalities. In my mind, anyway. The return of Rudolph

Rudolph is our small furry friend, whom I've never seen. He visited the kitchen last night while D was up late. I know this because: 1) A large sonic device is plugged in right in front of the crack between the oven and the wall. The sonic devices in the living room have kept Rudolph away from there, his previous hideaway. Apparently the cracks between appliances and the wall are harder to reach. 2) The mop has been moved from the hall closet to the kitchen closet. This means D tried to capture Rudolph. 3) A turtle magnet I haven't seen in a while is now on the fridge. That means it fell behind the oven and D found it during his interactions with Rudolph. (I am praying hard that Rudolph is a boy, since we don't want to find many small Rudolphs.) What makes me feel better about this whole thing is that mice are apparently everywhere this winter; even my brother has had problems with them. happy birthday e!

[Posted by Bearette's husband until she has Internet access] e was born today! 8 pounds even, a cute and healthy baby boy. He likes to stick out his tongue just a little, and move his mouth around. The hospital gave him a little white hat with a purple pom pom. Bearette is tired but happy. Pictures soon.
