Big love

So D and I watched 2 episodes of Big Love tonight (from Netflix). Episode 2 was called Viagra Blue, so I thought it would be terribly banal. Wrong! I really liked the show.

My favorite part of the show is the interaction among the three wives. They have shifting alliances and a fragile balance needs to be maintained. I think each one wants to maintain the illusion that she is the only one sleeping with Bill Paxton (the husband)...hence the scheduled places and times for "togetherness." I think Chloe Sevigny's role is like Omarosa's on Season One of The Apprentice...there has to be somebody people love to hate. I actually like her, though; she stirs things up and keeps them interesting. I think Bill Paxton's relationship with Jeanne Tripplehorn (the first wife) is the deepest, and the most like a conventional marriage. His relationship with the youngest wife (who is dating Chris Klein in real life) is almost father/daughter. Disturbing...but fascinating.

My obsession with knitting continues. I'll have pictures of a new project up in a few days. I also started a hat and taught myself how to cable. Whee!

I love Big Love. I can't wait until season 2 comes out on DVD at Blockbuster.

Nikki is just so conniving- you'll see more of this as the show goes on. I agree, though...there has to be at least one unlikeable character!

Is anyone else disturbed that they have no grass in their collective backyard?

Aha! I've got you hooked. ;)

Liz, I think they don't have any grass because they're in Utah. Not so much water to go around so you make your front lawn all pretty to keep up appearances. I wish someone would use that nice pool more often, though.

I've got disc 5 sitting and waiting for me to watch, but disc 4 is still "in transit". Argghh!

Liz - i didn't notice that! maybe it helps with their allergies ? ;)

Roxanne - yes, you did! i bumped up disc 2 to the top of my queue ;)

My uncle always threatened to pour greem cement in his yard to avoid the hassles of lawn maintenance.

Make that "green" cement. :)

Liz, I noticed that too and it's totally driving me nuts! lol

I watched episodes 1-5 this past weekend and totally loved it! I can't stand Nikki, although I think part of it for me is that Chloe's face just always looks so... pinched or consipated or something. lol

I can't wait to see your hat.

Thanks! I hope it doesn't take too much longer ;)

To answer your question, yes I would love a handmade anything. Of course, you don't need to feel obligated since yours were made without strings attached (pun totally intended). If you did decide to make something, I have fewer hats than scarves. Any color will do except for maybe pea green or mustard yellow. ;)

Oh yeah, I got disc 4 from the library tonight...and already watched both episodes. And the plot thickens...

Oh God! Wait until you see the last episode!

Roxanne - cool! I will try a hat then. But I'll finish this one first to make sure I'm doing it right ;) Maybe you could leave your head measurement in a comment? Not the hat size, but the actual inches. Thanks!

Liz - I am definitely looking forward to it!

Hmmmm. Maybe I need to add Big Love to my Netflix list.

And, wow, on the knitting. You really caught the bug---and the skills-fast. It took me almost two years before I tried a cable. Good on ya!

You definitely should!

Thanks re the knitting. I'm trying to cut back a little...one of my eyes is bloodshot and one of my yoga students agreed it can definitely strain your eyes, particularly if you're working with small stitches (the hat I'm about to finish has 80 stitches a row).

My head measures 21 1/2 inches. Don't outdo yourself to get anything made for me though. Give your poor eyes a rest. :)

Rox - it's ok! i got some rest and learned not to knit for too long at one time, and to look around a bit instead of staring at the knitting. Also, I finished my hat. So I'm all ready for yours :)
